Previously, on Leigh’s World!!!

Well, we left off from my past BORING week and now… I’m just updating on what’s happening next…

Here goes…

Monday Nov 21: Bum as usual. No class again. Drove my bro some place… Did some internet thingy that afternoon and bonded with the tv!

Tuesday Nov 22: pretty much nothing much happened bcoz i dont have classes though i managed to help my mom put up xmas lights outside our house rather than bore myself to death! and oh, by the way, i also managed to put a ribbon around the neck of my pet kitten named scarecrow. she’s so cute! here’s a pic.

Scarecrow_1hey, just so we’re clear, i was sooo bored that day, okay? Ü

Wednesday Nov 23: I had a TOEIC test (Test of English for International Communication) at school, so i woke up very early for my test at 8am. The test was relatively easy though. After that, i had lunch with L, K and J at Glorietta, where else? Ü

Thursday Nov 24: Had class in Thesis1… super boring din. My thesis partner K and I had to submit na some possible thesis topics though it’s still tentative. Here’s our possible thesis topics that interest us:

  1. Personality and Social Skills of Male and Female Morgue Workers - well this one’s inspired by one of our fave show, Tru Calling… hehe! Ü
  2. Perceptions and Concepts of Privacy of Private Investigators - this idea came from Lesly…
  3. Levels of Motivation and Competitiveness of Convicted Male Murderers Who Are About to be Released in Prison
  4. Self-Esteem and Coping Skills of Adolescents Who Recovered from Suicidal Incidents
  5. Coping and Motivational Skills of Cancer Patient Survivors

Friday Nov 25: Today, we attended the Psychological Association of the Philippines Junior Affiliates (PAPJA) Convention at La Consolacion College in Manila. I met with K, L and K at BF McDo and went to AC to pick up T, J and M. The ride was a blast. L kept on having bloopers the whole day! It was so funny! Had a blast though! Ate lunch at KFC near LaCo and hang out there for several hours. We then went back and listened to the first speaker, i even saw some of my high school friends there who were also taking psych in CEU - B and A. And then, after the first speaker, we went out and hang out ulet sa grounds ng LCC. Pretty big school i might say, not like AC but their facilities needed improvement especially their auditorium. *Sorry! No offense…!* Ü well, here’s some of our photoshoots! That night, i picked up L and M at BF McDo at around 8pm. We then went to Bob’s Crab Shack inside BF and met up with K and K2 who was with a new love interest named V. K’s cuzins played and sang for the acoustic night there and so did K. K sang very well. There were even onlookers outside the resto coz there were speakers outside and they probably heard K sang… hehe… good job K! Ü Well, that night was a blast as well. I unfortunately had to pull off a cinderella act and had to be home by 12 midnight. You know how mothers are when cars and daughters mixed not to mention a night out… so there, i did abide by her wishes and got home several minutes past 12… hehe… turned out okay naman. Here’s some pics:_bobs_4 Bobscrabshack Crab_shack_bf_1

Saturday Nov 26: Day 2 of the PAPJA Convention. I had to wake up sooo early and again i met up with K, L and M at BF McDo that morning with all the hang overs with us. We then went straight to LCC and attended the workshop we signed the day before. We signed up for workshop #9 which is Psychoanalytical Dream Interpretation. The speaker was from Ateneo. ’twas okay naman. We learned a lot. After that, we had our own things to do so we parted ways and went home.

That night, we had a party at Z’s place (it’s only next door) bcoz it was her dad’s bday. My cuzins and tita’s were all there as well as our other relatives. We realized that we’ve been partying every Satuday night for the whole month of November becoz there were many celebrants of November in our clan. Me and Z raided the magic mic and sang our hearts out. As usual, i had my opening act and scored a 100! Z was bothered why i always scored perfectly on my first songs… well, what can i say? ahem ahem… hehe… j/k! Ü Anyways, we sang the whole night through…

Sunday Nov 27: Just went to mass at 9 am sa MHC with my family and Z. Afterwards, we dropped off Z to her therapy session(for her back problems)… No biggie… then slept the whole day… and watch some more TV… =) and of course, updated this blog while surfin the net and downloading stuffs…

Okay, so that’s about it! ’til next time, okay? Ü Au revoir peeps!

With all due respect,

LEIGH

note: comments are open for all! thanks! Ü

Friday Nov 18: Nothin’ much as well. Just went around the mall with K. Had lunch with K and C at Wendy’s…

Saturday Nov 19: Hay… bum ulet as usual. I just had DVD marathon of War of The Worlds and The Exorcism of Emily Rose. *WARNING! Spoliers ALERT!* Well, kala ko naman sobrang kakatakot ung Emily Rose movie. Well to think na it’s based from a true story… scary nga! But the film indeed wasn’t at all that scary. Medjo may mga scenes lang na suspense but really it’s not a horror movie. In fact, it’s a courtroom case type of movie. Anyways, here’s some more of the things i’ve found on the net about the the real girl who’s the movie is based from:

The Case of Anneliese Michel (The True Story that this Movie is Based On)

It all began about 1968, when Anneliese Michel (a very religious nurtured girl, who was born on the 21st of September 1952) has an incident. Paralysed and shaking, she was unable to call to her 3 sisters, or her parents (Josef and Anna) for help. A Neurologist at the Psychiatric Clinic Würzburg diagnosed her with "Grand Mal" Epilepsy.

After a long stay at the Hospital, she begins to see devilish grimaces during her daily praying. In the fall of 1970 Anneliese returned to school, and while other girls live the freedom of the 70s, she starts believing to be possessed. She can’t find another reason for the grimaces. She also begins hearing voices, which continually tell her that she will “stew in hell”. As her depression get stronger and stronger, Anneliese doesn’t see any reason to continue seeing any doctors, because they cannot do anything that brings her any relief. Only once, does she tell a Doctor about the “Demons” and the constant voices, which she said had even begun ordering her to do things. But because of the wide gap between Western Medicine and Catholic Ideology, her reports of possession are dismissed.

In the summer of 1973 her parents ask a countless number of priests to perform an Exorcism. The Catholic Church rejects their requests and recommend that they continue giving the prescribed medications to their, now, 20 year-old daughter. The proof for a possession (Infestatio) is strictly structured, and until all of the requirements of a true possession are met, the Catholic Church cannot approve an Exorcism. A few of the requirements that the subject must exhibit include such things as: aversion against religious objects, speaking in languages unknown to them, demonstration of supernatural powers .

Pastor Ernst Alt, supervising Anneliese at that time, asked the Bishop of Würzburg for the Permit to perform an Exorcism on Anneliese Michel in 1974. His request was also rejected, so he recommends that Anneliese follows an even more religious lifestyle. But the incidents continue. At her parents house in Klingenberg, she is uncontrollable — she attacks, beats, at bites the family members. She doesn’t eat food, because the demons order her not to. Instead, Anneliese eats Spiders, Flies and Coal. She even drinks her own urine. She breaks Crucifixes, destroys paintings of Jesus, and demolishes Rosaries. For hours, she runs screaming throughout the house, while tearing the clothes from her body and urinating on the floor. She even performs self-mutilation.

In September 1975, after an exact Verification, the Bishop of Würzburg, Josef Stangl, assigns Father Arnold Renz and Father Ernst Alt with the order, to perform “The Great Exorcism” on Anneliese Michel. The basis for this ritual is the “Rituale Romanum”, a still valid Canon Law from the 17th century. Pastor Alt and Father Renz try to save Anneliese from over 6 manifestions that inhabit her body (Lucifer, Judas Iscariot, Nero, Cain, Hitler and Fleischmann, a disgraced Frankish Priest from the 16th century). From September of 1975 until July of 1976, the exorcism sessions were held at least twice a week. Sometimes her attacks were so strong, that she had to be held down by 3 men or tied up. Outside of the exorcism sessions, Anneliese had periods of time without any attacks, during which she goes to school and to church. Just like she did before.

But the attacks never stopped completely. The young woman becomes unconscious and paralyzed more often. The Exorcisms continue over weeks and months. She continues to pray by repeating the same incantations specified by the priests over and over again. Over several weeks, she denies all food and refuses to eat. Her knees are scraped and scabbed because of the 600 Genuflections she performs obsessively during the Exorcisms.

All of her exorcism sessions were recorded, so that evidence of her possession could be documented.

The last day of her exorcism is June 30, 1976. Anneliese is now totally emaciated, has a high temperature, and is also suffering from Pneumonia. In spite of this she continues doing the Genuflections. Her parents even help her doing them.

“Beg for Absolution”, is the last sentence Anneliese says to the Exorcists. To her mother, she says: “Mother, I’m afraid.” Then Anneliese Michel dies.

Her mother reported Anneliese’s death the next morning on July 1, 1976. That afternoon, Father Ernst Alt informs the prosecuting authorities in Aschaffenburg. The Senior Prosecutor began investigating.

A short time before these events occurred, William Friedkin’s 1974 movie, “The Exorcist”, played in cinemas across Germany. This sparked paranormal hysteria all over the county. Psychiatrists all over Europe reported an enormous increase in the number of new patients who were convinced that they were possessed by demons.

It took almost 2 years, until the “Klingenberg Case” was brought to court. Anneliese’s parents and the 2 Priest were accused of negligent homicide. There were only 2 questions that required an answer:
(1) What caused the death of Anneliese Michel? and (2) Who was responsible ?

As to the cause of her death, Forensic Pathologists concluded that: “Anneliese starved to death”

The Prosecution’s claim was that if the accused would have begun to force feed her at least one week prior to her death, then Anneliese’s life could have been saved. Her sister testified that Anneliese had told her that she did not want to be committed to a mental health facility, where should be be sedated and force fed. The Defense, in an effort to prove the presence of the demons, played the audio tapes that the priests had recorded. Of all the people who had witnessed at least one of the exorcism sessions, not one of them believed that Anneliese’s condition was caused by anything other than demonic possession.

A psychiatrist talked about “Doctrinaire Induction”. She said that it was the exorcims themselves that actually caused Anneliese’s psychotic behavior.

While they were found guilty, the judgement was not as hard as many expected it would be. Each of the defendents were sentenced to 6 months in jail for negligent homicide because they did not seek, or provide, any medical treatment for the deceased.

Following the trial, the Commission of the German Bishop-Conference declared that Anneliese Michel was not possessed after all.

Because of a belief that the body of a possessed person does not decay, Anneliese’s corpse was exhumed 18 months after she was buried. But they found that her body had, in fact, decayed, just as every other dead body does.

Even today, however, her grave is a is considered a sacred place by many Rosary-praying pilgrims, who believe that Anneliese Michel, by surrendering her life, was able to defeat the Devil

In 1999 Cardinal Medina Estévez presented Journalists, in Vatican-City, with the new version of the “Rituale Romanum” (a ritual used by the Catholic Church since 1614), which was called "De exorcismis et supplicationibus quibusdam" or more commonly referred to as “The Exorcism for the Upcoming Millennium”. After more then 10 years of editing, Pope John Paul II approbated the new Exorcism Rite, which is now allowed for worldwide usage. The change was initiated by the death of Anneliese Michel when the German Bishop-Conference demanded an end to the practice of “Rituale Romanum”.

Sunday Nov 20: Just went to mass at 9 am sa MHC with my family… No biggie… then slept the whole day… and watch some more TV… =)

Well, next week is still to come… Watch out for it! I’m outta here! Chill!

With all due respect,

Leigh =)

COMPLETE PROFILE:

Capricorn, the tenth Sign of the Zodiac, is all about hard work. Those born under this Sign are more than happy to put in a full day at the office, realizing that it will likely take a lot of those days to get to the top. That’s no problem, since Capricorns are both ambitious and determined: they will get there. Life is one big project for these folks, and they adapt to this by adopting a businesslike approach to most everything they do. Capricorns are practical as well, taking things one step at a time and being as realistic and pragmatic as possible. The Capricorn-born are extremely dedicated to their goals, almost to the point of stubbornness. Boy, those victories sure smell sweet, though, and that thought alone will keep Capricorns going.

It’s the Goat which symbolizes Capricorns, and an apt mascot it is. Goats love to climb to the top of the mountain, where the air is clear and fresh. In much the same way, Capricorns want to get to the top of their chosen field so that they can reap the benefits of success; namely fame, prestige and money. Getting to the top isn’t always a walk in the park, however, so it’s likely that Goats will ruffle a few feathers along the way. These folks can indeed be domineering, even egotistical, on their route to the top. They’ll tell you it’s part of being a leader with bright new ideas (in keeping with the Cardinal Quality assigned to this Sign). Capricorns are industrious, efficient, organized and won’t make a lot of waves. They are scrupulous with details and adopt a rather conventional posture in business and in life. These folks feel best playing it safe, since this is a fail-safe way to get to the top — eventually. Thankfully, Capricorns are patient, too, and are happy to wait for their ship to come in. The flip side to this staid behavior is that Goats can become quite unforgiving of those who aren’t as diligent or ambitious as they are. Capricorns need to remember that they do need allies along the way, ambitious or otherwise. In any case, once Capricorns receive the recognition and social status they so fervently crave, it’s likely that all will be forgiven.

Capricorn is ruled by the Planet Saturn. In ancient Roman mythology, Saturn was the father of many of the gods. Consider him top dog, if you will, and then you’ll see a parallel to Capricorns. Those born under this Sign also want to be the top dog, and they’re smart enough to know that the title won’t simply be handed to them. Caps are happy to work for it, and luckily they possess enough discipline and sense of responsibility to get them there. Capricorns tend to be mature and are amply blessed with common sense, two more qualities which help their success-driven endeavors. With any kind of luck (make that considerable work), Caps will find themselves on that top step, but they should also remember those who have helped them on their quest. They are traditional (but not quite the button-down stiffs some would suggest) and somewhat inhibited, prompting others to wonder if they can ever enjoy success and its rarefied air. Rest assured, these folks will be smiling inside.

The Element associated with Capricorn is Earth. There’s no surprise there! Caps aren’t interested in wild ideas or round-the-world dreams. They would much rather stay put and get to work. Remember, these are the businesspeople of the Zodiac, so in their sensible and economical way, they’ll get up every morning and see to it that their job is well done. While Caps can occasionally get a bit materialistic and greedy (hey, everyone needs a few perks), they are far too dignified and practical to get carried away. Plus, they love tradition and reserve and want to appear polite and friendly.

Capricorns at rest (yes, there is such a thing) enjoy leisurely sports such as golf and croquet — so long as they have a chance to win! Playing with a crew is also nice, since it brings to mind their beloved workplace. Team colors for a Capricorn are likely to be earthy brown and khaki, much like the relaxed slacks they like to wear. Sports-bound Caps also need to watch their teeth and knees, and they shouldn’t be too daring, lest they break some bones. When it comes to love, Capricorns are ever devoted and never emotive.

The great strengths of the Capricorn-born are their willingness to work hard and their determination to succeed. Their ambition is boundless, yet they are cautious, responsible and always play fair. That’s why their successes are all the more sweet.

Well, that’s just something i think that’s interesting… So fetch! haha… neweiz, i’m outta here!

With all due respect,

Shake It Off…

Monday, November 7th, 2005

I gotta shake it off…. *sighs* i really need to shake off this bum feeling… it’s the end na kc ng sem break eh and this wednesday, start na ng 2nd sem… anyways, i only have 2 subjects this term: physiological psych and thesis1!!! argh! so my sked is only twice a week. Wednesdays and thursdays lang at 9:10 - 12pm! So there! twice lang and half days lang me… that means less income *wink!* a.k.a. allowance and probably movies… but i’m not gonna give up. Thesis over movies? hmm… we’ll see about that… i’ll keep you posted… but in the mean time, i’ll just update you guys on what i’ve been doing the past three week (in my sem break)… well, one, there’s bumming around: sleeping uber late and waking up til nearly lunch time the next morning, two: there’s my best friend - the telly… like, i’ve been watching every single thing on tv especially in Etc… hehe… three: there’s movies in dvd. i have been updating my list of watched movies coz this sembreak, it’s all about catching up on  films that i’ve missed or have never seen before… i’ll post the list later and comment on the films i’ve seen recently on my dvd marathons (thanks to kate and kat for making this possible!)… four: is pigging out by the tv… but i don’t really get much pounds though, i wonder why… five: playing badminton with my mom in the afternoons… i swear, i just don’t have anything more to do so i play it and it’s a good exercise… and finally, aside from checking my mails, surfin’ the net and updating my blog, i also do some errands around town every once in a while and going out at night occassionally … whew! well, that’s it… supposedly, madami pa sanang night outs and plans kaso dami excuses.. maybe it’s not the right time pero it’s okay… dami pa din namang other time… there’s also the schiz get together at dee’s place… and i must say, dami dumating! i’m glad i did! ayun, dami catch ups and talks… reminiscings and mushings… of course inuman and sound trippin’… but grabe! this was the only time na medjo complete ang schizoid (well almost)… and we did some bonding and syempre photo shoots.. so fetch talaga! i’ll post some more pics soon pa kasi i still haven’t gotten them from my schiz siz e… 10302005_at_deedees_house_1

So, to end this post, here’s the list of movies i’ve seen this sem break:

New Movies Seen in DVD: (WARNING! Possible Spoilers alert!)

Labyrinth - cool one! although an old flick, this film is funny and the songs were interesting esp. the underground song… touchy and shows the value of friendship. A must see!

Win A Date with Tad Hamilton - this film is sure to make you kilig… sort of a romantic comedy film that inspires you to find out just how many smiles you’ve got. PS: Topher Grace (who played as Pete in this film is such a cutie! - Though my mom aims for the cute tad hamilton himself!) Cool soundtrack as well!

Cold Mountain - Okay, i’m not so much into old war films but the fact that my Cillian Murphy is in this one has forced me to gather up my strength and actually see this film. It’s just sad that Cillian has only one scene that’s about 20 minutes screening time in this film and what happened was he was shot by Natalie Portman, being mistaken for harming her baby when in fact, Cillian’s character, Bardolph, was only trying to help. Unfortunately, he died.

The Longest Yard - I’m not really a fan of Adam Sandler but I hear so many people saying this film’s a good one so i saw this and to be honest, i’m not that satisfied. Okay it’s sort of funny but i nearly fell asleep through the film. I only liked the end part (which is the game) and those skanky prison cheerleaders. They’re funny!

Sleepover - This chick flick is a must see for all those having a slumber party. It’s a good one, showing friendship and caring for your friends. I liked the girls’ green mini car, if you know what i mean.

Hitch - This is an okay film as well. It’s funny in a way but i’m glad i didn’t see it in the theatres.

The Perfect Man - This film is great for mother-daughters out there! i did see this flick with my mom. Funny and touchy as well. Shows a sense of friendship (again), love and value for respecting the feelings of mothers and daughters and also moving on with life. Loved the songs as well.

Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous - This is a great film. I loved it. Too bad Benjamin Bratt wasn’t in this hilarious sequel. Makes me want to become an FBI Agent more…! hehe…

A Lot Like Love - Well, the story’s nice. Ashton’s a total hottie and it’s quite funny as well. Makes you learn more about love. I liked the songs here too.

The Girl Next Door - Hmm… what can i say with this one? It’s a so-so film. Not much of a story though cool ending. Lots of misleadings in this film.

New York Minute - Well, i must say, this is quite a new one for the Olsen twins. It’s just that Jared’s character is way much older for one of the twins. My cousin commented that as she saw this film, she thought that New York City is quite "magulo" as what she’d said. I thought otherwise, for i wanted to go there someday.

The Challenge - Well, this is yet another one of the Olsen twin’s TV movies and this is like a sppof of the survivor only the prize is a scholarship. An okay story though…

Intermission - One of Cillian’s films… This one’s an Irish film that’s funny though not much of a story but will do. The only downside is all of the actor’s accents are quite challenging to follow so you really do have to pay attention. Irish accents mixed with fast talking is indeed a challenge. Collin Farrell is in this one too!

Movies Seen *again* in DVD:

Batman Begins

Shall We Dance

A Cinderella Story

Taking Lives

Agent Cody Banks

I Know What You Did Last Summer

What A Girl Wants

The Day After Tomorrow

Pixel Perfect

Get A Clue

Blank Check

White Chicks

Well, that’s it for now. Hey, do i make great movie reviews or what? heehee.. I’ll keep you posted. Au revoir for now!

With all due respect,
